Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to take BLS if I already have ACLS?

Yes, you must take BLS even if you have ACLS certification. These are distinct courses, and sometimes they might be scheduled back-to-back, but each one requires its own set of training, including practical and written exams. Completing an ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) course does not grant you BLS certification automatically.

Is there an AHA BLS practice test, or any pre-course material?

No, the American Heart Association (AHA) does not provide an official BLS practice test. However, there are online resources from third party providers that offer practice test questions. The official BLS written exam that you’ll take is 25 questions, and you need an 84% or higher to pass.

Do you offer online BLS certifications?

If you’re looking to do your BLS renewal online, the official class title is called “HeartCode BLS.” You can purchase the online course from us here or an AHA distributor. Afterwards, you must complete the hands-on skills test portion by registering here: https://sierrabls.enrollware.com/schedule#ct389753

Does BLS include First Aid?

No. Those who take a BLS class typically already have a medical background that includes First Aid knowledge up to their scope of practice. If you need a First Aid certification, you’ll need to take that class as well, called HeartSaver First Aid.

I can't find my card. How do I access it?

The AHA went to eCards back in 2019, as opposed to physical cards being the sole issuing type. Now if you can't find it or need it replaced, go to https://ecards.heart.org/student/myecards and type in your first name, last name, and email address the card was issued to! If you still cannot find it, email us at Info@SierraBLS.com and we'll help you locate it.

How long is the certification valid for?

Cards issued by the AHA are valid for a two-year period and expires at the end of the month. For example, a card issued 4/15/2024 will expire 04/2026, which means 04/30/2026.

Heartcode® (Virtual) + Hands-On Skills Session (In-Person)

HeartCode BLS is the AHA’s BLS blended learning delivery method. Blended learning is a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner, followed by a hands-on skills session.

Complete the online portion then schedule a hands-on skills session with Sierra BLS to receive the AHA e-card course completion card same-day.

The BLS Instructor-led course teaches both single-rescuer and team basic life support skills for application in both prehospital and in-facility environments, with a focus on High-Quality CPR and team dynamics.

I had a really great experience to renew my BLS CPR. It was super easy to book a class online. The course instructor was very knowledgeable, hands-on, and helpful with answering questions. There is a nice 2-page guide supplied online with your online purchase with important points to remember and helps you prepare ahead of the class. Remember to submit online or bring your prior CPR card if you are taking a renewal class.I really like the class size as it was smaller than what I have experienced in the past at other facilities. This made it so much better and easier to get through the questions, material, practice, and was so much more efficient. He supplied a copy of my AHA card right away after taking the test as well as a nursing CEU certificate. Excellent! I will definitely come back for my next renewal!
