Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

The AHA’s ACLS course builds on the foundation of lifesaving BLS skills, emphasizing the importance of continuous, high-quality CPR. Reflects science and education from the American Heart Association Guidelines Update for CPR and Emergency Cardiovascular Care (ECC). For those with advanced experience and skills, ACLS EP (ACLS Experienced Provider) is available on a case-by-case basis.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to take BLS if I already have ACLS?

Yes, you must take BLS even if you have ACLS certification. These are distinct courses, and sometimes they might be scheduled back-to-back, but each one requires its own set of training, including practical and written exams. Completing an ACLS (Advanced Cardiac Life Support) course does not grant you BLS certification automatically.

Who should take ACLS classes?

The following individuals should take AHA ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) classes:

Physicians and Nurses: Pharmacists, doctors, registered nurses, and nurse practitioners who work in critical care, emergency departments, or other acute care settings.
Paramedics: Paramedics who are involved in managing cardiac emergencies in the field.
Anesthesiologists and CRNAs: Anesthesia providers responsible for airway management and cardiovascular status during surgeries.
Respiratory Therapists: Respiratory therapists who care for critically ill patients, particularly those on mechanical ventilation.

ACLS training is essential for these professionals to effectively respond to cardiovascular emergencies and improve patient outcomes.

Is there any Pre-Course material?

Yes! It is mandatory to be performed prior to arriving to class. Showing up without completing the pre-course material and pre-course assessment will result in denied entry to the class and a rescheduling. It can be accessed for free here: https://elearning.heart.org/course/423

Do you offer online ACLS certifications?

If you’re looking to do your ACLS online, the official class title is called “HeartCode ACLS.” You can purchase the online course from us here or an AHA distributor. Afterwards, you must complete the hands-on skills test portion by registering here: https://sierrabls.enrollware.com/schedule#ct384236

I can't find my card. How do I access it?

The AHA went to eCards back in 2019, as opposed to physical cards being the sole issuing type. Now if you can't find it or need it replaced, go to https://ecards.heart.org/student/myecards and type in your first name, last name, and email address the card was issued to! If you still cannot find it, email us at Info@SierraBLS.com and we'll help you locate it.

How long is the certification valid for?

Cards issued by the AHA are valid for a two-year period and expires at the end of the month. For example, a card issued 4/15/2024 will expire 04/2026, which means 04/30/2026.

Heartcode® (Virtual) + Hands-On Skills Session (In-Person)

HeartCode ACLS is the AHA’s ACLS blended learning delivery method. Blended learning is a combination of eLearning, in which a student completes part of the course in a self-directed manner, followed by a hands-on skills session.

Complete the online portion then schedule a hands-on skills session with Sierra BLS to receive the e-card course completion card upon passing all requirements.

Classroom Lesson (In-Person)

The ACLS Instructor-led course teaches the importance of preventing cardiac arrest, high-performance teams, early and continuous high-quality CPR, systems of care, recognition and intervention of cardiopulmonary arrest, post-cardiac arrest care, acute dysrhythmias, stroke, and acute coronary syndromes (ACS)

Completion of In-Person classes are dependent upon passing all exams and skills test before receiving an e-card course completion certificate.

There is a nice 2-page guide supplied online with your online purchase with important points to remember and helps you prepare ahead of the class. Remember to submit online or bring your prior CPR card if you are taking a renewal class.I really like the class size as it was smaller than what I have experienced in the past at other facilities. This made it so much better and easier to get through the questions, material, practice, and was so much more efficient.
